December 1995 The rape of a Japanese school girl by US soldiers led to increasing tension between Japan's Self-Defence Force and the American Army in Japan. Meanwhile British Government representatives are negotiating to train members of the SDF in Britain. This follows pressure to increase the role of Japan's army in international peace-keeping.
